Technopolis®, the Flemish Science Centre set up a City Partnership with the City of Mechelen.
Technopolis® is the Flemish Science Centre, a place where people can experiment and find out the how and why of countless technological and scientific phenomena. Technopolis® is a permanent platform for science and technology and welcomes more than 300,000 visitors a year. The mission is clear: bringing science and technology closer to people, enhancing the public’s engagement to science and technology.
Mechelen is situated in the heart of Flanders, mid-way between Antwerp and Brussels. ‘Mechelaars’, as the people of Mechelen are called, speak of their city with pride. They are proud of Gouden Carolus, the award-winning beer which has been brewed for centuries. They are proud of Margaret, Charles V’s aunt, whose royal court put sixteenth-century Mechelen on the world map. And the people of Mechelen also take pride in their more than 300 listed buildings and four mentions on the UNESCO world heritage list. The most famous of these has to be the impressive St Rumbold’s Tower!
Technopolis® and the City of Mechelen set up a partnership in the Places framework regarding ‘sustainable mobility’. On the 1st of April Technopolis® and the City of Mechelen will organize an ‘Ecomobility Day’. On that day visitors of Technopolis® and inhabitants of Mechelen will be introduced to the topic of sustainable mobility. Therefore exhibitors of electric vehicles, bicycles and scooters, as well as public transport providers, research institutions, universities, … will be invited to inform the people on sustainable mobility. Also there will be lectures and workshops for children. During the ‘Ecomobility Day’ inhabitants of Mechelen and visitors of Technopolis® will be questioned on what they think about sustainable mobility.
