Trento

Trento is a medium size town located in the Alps (Northern Italy)http://www2.comune.trento.it/index_eng.htm. Historically well know in Europe for the 15th Century religious Council, nowadays Trento is a friendly city willing to contribute to the worldwide knowledge economy by investing in culture, innovation and creativity. From the urban economy point of view, Trento and its region are facing the challenge to overcome a slight delay in modernization and to gain a more robust International role. The presence and activities of the University and the several scientific research centres are the essentials for supporting the growth and development of the whole urban area, based on advanced training, research and innovation.

In recent years new thoughts and perspectives became clearly stated: on one hand the urban design projects, that will shape the town in the next five years with new quarters and services, and on the other hand the citizens quest for quality of life, not only in terms of beauty of the environment, but also in terms of a well functioning town. This process, partly different from similar contemporary experiences, broke down into design elements the general planning of the town, to focus and integrate the social-cultural, territorial and economic elements, in order to carry out public policies on an urban scale. The accent is therefore placed, rather than on the "design" strategies, on their actual ability to affect and have effect.

Trento is undergoing major urban transformation. Important changing will take place in the next five years, modifying and influencing the urban and social shape of the city. The new potential and critical features of these structures will influence the life of citizens. The town will face new opportunities linked to the new sites and spaces, among which the Science museum http://www.muse2012.eu/en/index.html is one of the most strategic turning point. This brand new building, especially built for a new concept museum, will be pivotal for itself, but also for the large green area surrounding it. The challenge is to let this new public park become a safe and cozy place for every citizen, where to enjoy nature and culture.
